Men's Basketball Advances at National Tournament
Minneapolis, MN -- Faith men's basketball won their first round game against Southwestern Adventist University with a final score of 86-79.
The Eagles played fast and physical in Wednesday's opening round game that saw 12 lead changes and neither team leading by more than nine.
It took Faith several minutes to get into a scoring rhythm as the Eagles found themselves with a narrow 6-4 lead just five minutes into the game. Back-to-back threes from Landon Brahs followed by a quick layup from Cade Cooper ballooned the Eagles lead and Faith stormed to an 18-11 advantage at the first media timeout. Southwestern Adventist battled back into the game in the final 10 minutes of the half, and both teams traded buckets until the buzzer. The Knights found themselves up four with 17 seconds to go, but Brahs hit his third 3 pointer of the half as time ran out and the Eagles headed into the break only trailing by one.
Faith struck first in the second half as Quensy Ferguson found himself open for a layup to take the advantage and Landon Brahs and Mason Gorsh added a bucket apiece to push their lead to five in the opening minute of the half. Southwestern Adventist seemed to find answers for every Faith basket, but the Eagles led by two at the final media timeout. The Knights did just enough to stay in the game, and the Eagles did just enough to keep their lead down the stretch and as the clock ran out, Faith found themselves with an 86-79 win and a their spot in the quarterfinals secured.
Landon Brahs recorded a double-double on the night with a game-leading 22 points and 10 rebounds. Mason Gorsh (15 pts), Jackson Lockard (15 pts), and Sam Kirkman (10 pts) rounded out double-digit scoring for the Eagles while Quensy Ferguson added a team-high seven assists and three steals on the night.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will compete in the tournament quarterfinals against #1 seeded Spurgeon College. Tipoff is set for Thursday, March 12th at 6:00 p.m. CT.
