The Eagles played their first of four straight MCCC games on the road this weekend kicking off the road trip against Calvary University in a game that saw the Eagles lead by as many as 28 points. Four players scored double-figures, led by Landon Brahs with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Jackson Lockard and Mason Gorsh scored 13 points each, and Quensy Ferguson added 10 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
The Eagles got down early, trailing by as many as 12 points early on. At the 14 minute mark, a made layup from Cade Cooper started the Eagles on a 12-3 run which brought them all the way back in the game, trailing 20-21. Two minutes later, back to back layups from Asa LaFleur and Sam Kirkman gave the Eagles the lead that would hold through the rest of the game and halftime found Faith up 42-38.
The Eagles went on a scoring tear in the second half, outscoring the Warriors 51-30 as they scored early and often. Faith shot a blistering 56% from the field, scoring 56 of their points in the paint. The Eagles forced 23 turnovers and outrebounded their opponent by 13. Friday gave the Eagles their third MCCC win and 11th win of the season.
Faith picked up where they left off the next day, taking on #9 Ozark Christian College in a tough road environment. The Eagles dominated the first half, scoring on the first possession of the game and pushing their lead to 12-3 in the first several minutes. Mason Gorsh and Landon Brahs combined for 24 points and the Eagles made 9 threes as a team in the first half.
In what was a tale of two halves, the Ambassadors came out the more aggressive team. The Eagles weathered the storm, but despite their best efforts, cold shooting and foul trouble allowed the home Ambassadors to dig their way back into the game. Ozark took the lead on a made three with four minutes left, and held it through the buzzer. The Eagles stayed in it until the end, trailing by two as Wesley Phillips snagged an offensive rebound and converted for a bucket with 7 seconds left, but in the end, Faith would fall just short of the road upset over the Ambassadors.
UP NEXT: Faith Men's Basketball continues their road stretch as they travel to Dubuque on Tuesday, January 20th. Faith will compete in the fourth annual Chaplain's Cup battle against Emmaus as they look to bring the trophy back to Ankeny for the year. Tipoff on Tuesday is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
