The Eagles extended their win streak to six with wins over MCCC opponents Barclay and Manhattan over the weekend.
Friday was all Faith, as a layup from Asa LaFleur and three straight 3's from Mason Gorsh gave the Eagles an 11-3 lead in the first two minutes of play. The Eagles scored over 50 points in a half for the third game in a row, leading 61-34 at the half. Sam Kirkman drained six 3's for 18 first half points, and Gorsh scored 14 of his 23 points before the break. Faith continued their strong play in the second half, outscoring the Bears 46-25 and marching to the decisive 107-59 victory.
15 players saw the court in Friday's win and the Eagles saw six players score double-digits, led by Sam Kirkman and Mason Gorsh with 23 points each. Jackson Lockard recorded 13 points and a team high 7 assists, and Quensy Ferguson dished out 6 assists.
Saturday saw the Eagles face the reigning MCCC champions and #4 ranked Manhattan Christian in a high scoring affair. The Thunder got on the board first with a steal and a bucket twenty seconds in, but that would be their only lead of the game as a layup from Logan Fincham would tie the game and another run from Mason Gorsh gave the Eagles the early 11-4 lead. Faith pushed their lead to 9 points three different times in the first half, but the Thunder kept the game within reach and halftime saw the Eagles up 48-43.
The Eagles kept the pressure high in the second half, as a made free throw from Quensy Ferguson gave Faith their largest lead of the day at 73-59 with 12 minutes left. That lead would not last as the Thunder dug their way back into the game and tied it 83-83 with three minutes to go. Up one with 20 seconds left, Faith got the most crucial defensive stop of the day, forcing a tough shot and securing the rebound. A made free throw sealed the victory and Faith walked out with their first win against Manhattan since February of 2020.
Mason Gorsh led all scoring with 36 points in the win. Jackson Lockard added a career high 18 points, and Quensy Ferguson dished out 10 assists for the third time this season. Saturday marks the Eagles' fifth game in a row scoring 90+ points, placing them second in the nation in scoring so far this season. With the wins, Faith moves to 7-2 on the season, and 2-0 in MCCC play. The Eagles will finish the semester with two important North Region games as they face Oak Hills and Crown next week.
UP NEXT: Faith men's basketball returns to action on Friday, December 12th as they face Oak Hills in a North Region game on the road. Tipoff is set for Friday at 4:00 p.m. CT.
