The Eagles took part in what promised to be a thrilling MCCC Tournament over the weekend, entering as the top seed and flaling just shy of the tournament championship title.
Faith took on the #4 seed Ambassadors in the semifinals, a team they had split with in the regular season. Ozark struck first, leading 6-0 before Faith got on the board. The Eagles trailed for much of the first half, not finding their first lead until 9:29 left, but they would take an eventual 37-32 advantage into the break to set themselves up for a good second half.
The teams continued to swap the lead over the next 20 minutes, neither side able to pull too far ahead and at the end of 40 minutes, the scored was once again tied at 72 apiece. The Eagles outscored their opponent 10-6 in overtime, as four Eagles scored in the final five and Faith would walk away with the 82-78 semifinal victory and a trip to the Conference Championship.
Faith met #2 seeded Manhattan in the Championship, a team that has made the tournament final constistently in previous years.
Despite 6 players scoring double-digits, and 15 made threes on the day, the Eagles could not find an answer to Manhattan's post presence and ultimately came up short in the championship, 104-91. Mason Gorsh recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Landon Brahs (11 points/6 assists) and Quensy Ferguson (8 points/7 assists) dished out nearly half of the team's assists. Asa Lafleur scored 10 points on a perfect 4/4 shooting from the field. Sam Kirkman and Jackson Lockard scored 16 apiece shooting a combined 9/18 from three point land.
UP NEXT: The Eagles prepare for the North Region tournament, taking place in Ellendale, ND on March 2-4. Tournament details to be announced at fbbceagles.com
