Faith Falls in Lightwell Trophy Match
Dubuque, IA -- Faith women's volleyball came close, but ultimately fell to Emmaus in four close sets.
Tuesday saw the second in-state match between the two Eagle squads, this one coming with a trophy on the line as the teams battled in the second annual Lightwell Trophy match.
Faith started the match off strong, winning 25-19 in the first set. The Host Eagles picked up their intensity and the next two sets saw Emmaus win in extra points, 26-24, 26-24. The fourth set saw Emmaus walk away with the 25-22 win and the 3-1 match victory, and the Lightwell Trophy remains in Dubuque for another year.
Four Eagles recorded double-digit kills on the day, led by Codie Wirges' 14. The Eagles outperformed their opponent in six different major stat categories, but the difference in the match came from unforced errors on Faith's side to ultimately hand Emmaus the victory.
