Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day Victory
Ankeny, IA -- Faith Women's Soccer took on a shorthanded Spurgeon squad and came away with the 2-1 Senior Day victory.
The Eagles came into the match down a couple of players themselves, and adjustments came in the form of a shifted lineup that saw Emma Boldt start in goal for the first time. A flurry of activity came in the first five minutes of the game, as Jordyn Frerichs notched the first goal of the game on a cross from Eliana Fritz. Spurgeon would would score their lone goal a couple of minutes later, and neither team could find another break through in the first half.
After the break, Faith shifted Boldt back onto the field and Megan Hunter took over in goal. The duo earned 2 saves apiece on the day, each one coming in crucial moments of the match. The second half read similar to the first, as Faith outnumbered their opponents on the field and were able to limit offensive looks from the Knights. The game-winning goal came in the 78th minute for the Eagles as Paige Emslie stripped the ball from her opponent, sending it up the line to Jordyn Frerichs who found Eliana Fritz dashing up the middle for the easy tap in and the eventual 2-1 victory.
At halftime, Faith women's soccer honored their fourth year senior Kayla Stephens in a senior day celebration. Kayla has played 48 games for the Eagles, starting 44 of those and recording 7 goals, 4 assists, and 18 points as part of the women's soccer team.
