Women's Soccer Sweeps the Knights
Kansas City, MO -- Faith women's soccer saw three different scorers in their 3-1 rout of the Knights on Friday.
The Eagles saw a large break in action, waiting nearly two weeks between matches due to a cancellation from one of their opponents. The break allowed a chance for players to rest and heal mid-season, which they followed up with a decisive 3-1 victory over Spurgeon, completing the season sweep.
The teams battled through most of the first half in a deadlock with neither team seeing many openings early. Faith took three shots in the first half with only one on goal, but that would be all the Eagles needed as Bayojoy Afolabi scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Eliana Fritz in the 40th minute. Faith kept their lead into halftime, enterign the break with a 1-0 advantage.
The second half saw a flurry of scoring as a Spurgeon player broke free to score the equalizer less than ten minutes in. Annalis Benson notched what would becoem the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, assisted by Afolabi. The Eagles fought hard defensively in the second half as Spurgeon placed six shots on goal, and Sophomore GK Megan Yuan performed excellently, only allowing the one goal and recordign five saves on the day. The Eagles added an insurance goal in the 86th minute, as Elliana Wolters found herself in the perfect spot in front of the goal for a cross from Anna Scott, and she tapped in her first career goal to finish scoring for the day.
Friday's win marks the 5th win of the year for the Eagles as they will play one more regular season match before they compete at the regional tournament.
