The Eagles kicked off the tournament with a quarterfinal clash against Ozark Christian College on Thursday, staying close but falling to the consolation bracket with a 47-55 loss.
Faith outscored the #3 seeded Ambassadors in both the first and fourth quarters, but a low scoring middle of the game proved fatal for the sixth seed as Ozark would eventually walk away with the win and a ticket to the semifinals.
Miriam Beenken (19 pts/14 reb) and Soleil Ashley (11 pts/12 reb) both recorded double-doubles in the quarterfinal matchup. Ashley added 4 blocks, and the Eagles recorded assists on 14 of 20 made shots.
Faith had a quick turnaround to play in the fifth place game on Friday at 10:00 a.m. where they faced Emmaus for the third time this season. The first half played heavily in the Eagles favor, as they outscored their opponent in both quarters and headed into the break up 38-30. The second half shifted in Emmaus' favor, as the Eagles struggled to produce in the third quarter. In the end, Emmaus would walk away with a one point victory in the fifth place contest.
Katie Costello led all scorers with 22 points, while Soleil Ashley did a little bit of everything with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks to finish out the weekend.
On Friday, the Eagles were honored with two All-Conference awards, as voted on by coaches throughout the MCCC:
Katie Costello: 2nd Team All-Conference
Team: Richard E. Brown Sportsmanship Award
UP NEXT: The Eagles will stay home for a week to prep for the North Region tournament taking place in Ellendale, ND on March 2-4. Tournament details to be announced at fbbceagles.com
