Eagles Soar in Road Win
Lincoln, NE -- Faith Women's Basketball ran away in the second half on Monday to secure the season sweep against Union Adventist University.
The Eagles got off to a slow start on Monday, trailing 8-16 at the end of the first quarter. Despite giving themselves several scoring opportunities right away, Faith struggled to score from outside early. A made layup from Mirelli Fritz got them on the board with 6:44 remaining in the first quarter, but Faith trailed 2-14 before they found any offensive footing. Over the next 12 minutes, the Eagles went on a 16-9 run, fueled by ten points from Katie Costello, and Faith headed into the half trailing 18-23.
The Eagles would not be stopped in the second half, scoring twice in the first minute of play to tie the game at 23 apiece, and taking the lead as Kayla Stephens hit a layup with 7:42 to go in the third. in their best defensive performance of the year, the Eagles held union scoreless in the third quarter, giving themselves a thirteen point leed heading into the final frame. The Warriors found some traction in the fourth quarter, but Faith weathered the storm and in the end walked away with a 15 point victory and the season sweep.
Katie Costello led the offense with 20 points, followed by Emily Franklin scoring a career high 12. The Eagles held their opponent to 27% shooting from the field and 11% from 3, and went on a 25-0 run spanning a fourteen minute stretch from 0:10 in the second quarter to 6:53 in the fourth quarter.
UP NEXT: The Eagles hit the road to take on NAIA/NCCAA DI Hesston College on Friday and will end the week with a Conference game against Manhattan on Saturday. Tipoff in the Yost Center is set for Feb. 6th at 7:00 p.m. CT.
