Women's Basketball Loses Tight Contest to Emmaus
Ankeny, IA -- Faith women's basketball took on Emmaus in the second annual Pat Duer trophy game, falling in a heartbreaker in the final moments.
Tuesday's game promised to be a thriller as the teams battled through 10 ties and 16 lead changes.
The Eagles from Dubuque scored off the tip for their first lead of the game, but Faith struck back 1 minute later to take the lead. Neither team could build much of a lead through the first, and Faith found themselves up 16-15 after ten minutes. The second quarter saw a similar scoring pattern, this time finding Emmaus up by one heading into the break.
The third quarter swung in the favor of the visiting Eagles, as Emmaus led by as many as eight points, but Faith dug their way back and tied the game at 58 apiece with 1:10 to go. Emmaus took a three point lead in the final minute and the game seemed all but over until Miriam Beenken scored a putback layup and Emmaus turned the ball over to give Faith a last second chance at the win. The Eagles found a scoring opportunity but the shot would not fall and Emmaus would take the win, and the Pat Duer Trophy back to Dubuque.
Katie Costello, Miriam Beenken, and Morgan Fincham combined for 44 of the team's 60 points, and Beenken added 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals to stuff the stat sheet in her second game back. Faith outperformed the visiting Eagles in several stat categories, but ultimately shot a significantly lower percentage from the field in the loss.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will stay home for their final regular season games, hosting Ozark and Calvary this weekend. Tipoff against the Ambassadors is set for Friday, Feb. 13th at 6:00 p.m. CT.
