Women's Basketball Bounces Back With First MCCC Win
Moberly, MO -- The Eagles put together their best game of the year in the 61-43 Conference win over CCCB on Friday.
Katie Costello and Mirelli Fritz each recorded double-doubles in the win, as Costello led the team with 25 points, 21 rebounds, and 4 steals. Fritz added 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Morgan Fincham and Soleil Ashley rounded out the main scoring with 9 and 8 points respectively. The Eagles outscored their opponent in each quarter while outrebounding the Saints by 20.
Mirelli Fritz opened the scoring for Faith, earning their first five points of the game on a made 3, followed by a turnaround jumper in the paint. The Eagles started rolling from there, trading baskets for the next couple of minutes until a layup at the buzzer put Faith up by four after the first quarter.
Costello and Fritz comandeered the second quarter, heading up an 11-2 run that gave Faith the 25-15 lead with two minutes to go in the half. The Saints made a couple of baskets of their own, but the Eagles answered back and the second buzzer-beater of the day came from a made layup off of a drive from Soleil Ashley. Faith headed into the break leading 29-20 and felt like they had a solid hold of the game.
The second half saw a scoring burst from the Eagles, as they scored more than half of their points in the third and fourth quarter combined. Faith held the Saints to 23 second half points and at the end of the day walked away with their first MCCC win of the season.
