Friday was a tail of two halves, as Faith took on NAIA/NCCAA DI opponent Hesston College.
The first half was all Eagles, as the visiting tema scored early and often to lead 19-15 at the end of the first quarter. Faith picked up the energy on both sides of the court, outscoring their opponent 23-9 in the second frame to take an 18 point lead into halftime. The Larks made several adjustments at the break and Faith struggled to find their footing in the second half. Hesston took the lead with four minutes to go in the game and that would hold through the end as a last second shot to tie would not fall for the Eagles.
Katie Costello led all scoring with 20 points on five made threes. Miriam Beenken came close to a triple-double in her first game back with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. Despite the loss, the Eagles found themselves in a good spot heading into Saturday's MCCC contest.
Saturday saw a similar story for the Eagles as they scored easily in the first half and found themselves with a ten point lead going into the break. Faith kept the the fight and the lead until the fourth quarter, as the home Thunder outscored the Eagles 14-6. The Eagles trailed by two with 1:34 left, but could not capitalize on their remaining possessions and fell 62-60 in the MCCC matchup.
Katie Costello, Mirelli Fritz, and Soleil Ashley led the Eagles in scoring, all contributing efficient double-digit scoring performances on the day.
UP NEXT: The Eagles will head home for three straight MCCC games to close out the regular season. Faith hosts Emmaus in the Pat Duer trophy game on Tuesday, Feb 10th with Tipoff in Nettleton set for 4:00 p.m. CT.
