Following a tough stretch of three losses by a combined six points, the Eagles got themselves back in the win column with a thrilling 13 point victory over Ozark Christian College on Friday evening.
Faith started the game with 13 unanswered points in the first three minutes. The visiting Ambassadors made their first basket at the 7:11 mark and made a push to get back into the game, and although the Eagles offense slowed down, Emily Franklin scored four points to keep them in the lead at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles kept rolling in the second frame, pushing their lead from four to 11 points by the halftime buzzer.
Ozark struck first after the break and cut their deficit to five points halfway through the quarter, but Faith quickly built the lead back up to ten, this time fueled by back-to-back backets from Gabriella Widman in the last 30 seconds. The Eagles matched their opponent's scoring the entire fourth quarter and ultimately walked away with the 63-50 victory over the nationally ranked Ambassadors.
Morgan Fincham had a career day with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block to lead the Eagles to victory. Katie Costello added a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Miriam Beenken added 9 pointsand 14 rebounds on an efficient scoring night.
Saturday's game against Calvary was a down to the wire thriller as the teams saw 7 ties, 12 lead changes, and neither team led by more than 6 points.
A low scoring first quarter saw Calvary lead 7-4 as neither team shot well from the floor. The next ten minutes saw offense pick up on both sides, and Faith found themselves trailing by just one at halftime. The final quarter saw a flurry of scoring from both teams but the Warriors would ultimately edge out the Eagles by three points to hand Faith the narrow three point loss.
Miriam Beenken (16 points/12 rebounds) and Katie Costello (12 points/12 rebounds) both contributed double-doubled on the day, and Morgan Fincham added 14 points and 8 rebounds to round out the main scoring for the Eagles.
On Saturday the Eagles honored their four-year senior, Kayla Stephens. Stephens has played 98 games in a Faith uniform and has tallied 270 points, 306 rebounds, 159 assists, and 117 steals. Kayla and the Eagles are set to kickoff postseason play at the MCCC Tournament next week.
