Faith Posts Second Straight Shutout Win After Defeating Emmaus, 3-0
Ankeny, IA -- Faith men's soccer earned their second straight shutout, and third straight win on Tuesday as they defeated Emmaus University 3-0.
The in-state rivalry between Faith and Emmaus always promises an intense soccer match, the most recent meetups coming in 2024 when the teams played twice in the regular season. In both matches, neither team could find any openings until the Eagles from Emmaus found the net in the final minute, winning 1-0 both times. Tuesday's match promised a different story as Faith continued their early scoring trend, taking a 1-0 lead in just the sixth minute of the match.
That goal would be the only one scored in the first half as Andre Quintana attacked the middle, bringing the opposing centerback away from their position, and sliced a pass straight up the middle to Austin Lundberg who found the net for his fifth goal of the season. Emmaus picked up their intensity, but the home Eagles were able to match that and defend well through halftime.
Faith increased their lead a couple of minutes into the second half, as Alan Moscosa sent a free kick through to Cody Clark for the shot that bounced off of several Emmaus players and eventually into the goal. Five minutes later, Cody Clark scored again in a play eerily similar to the first goal of the day as Zachary Choi sliced through the middle for the assist.
The Eagles' 3-0 lead held for the last 40 minutes, and allowed Faith to go deep into their bench. In his first career start, Zeke Denger posted his first clean sheet, recording four saves on the day.
UP NEXT: Faith men's soccer will take the week to rejuvenate before hitting the road for a rematch against Union Adventist University on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 3:00 p.m. CT.
