ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team got back to its winning ways Tuesday evening with a 3-1 conference win over Union College. The victory improved the Eagles' record to 5-3 overall (last Saturday's loss against Viterbo was an exhibition game), and 2-1 in conference play.
Union College was looking to avenge its overtime loss to the Eagles from earlier this season, but Faith set the tone early, scoring on a penalty kick by James Busenitz at the 23:30 mark in the first half. Fifteen minutes later, Noah Zollinger extended the lead to 2-0 on a kick that bounced off the top cross bar and passed the goal line. Busenitz answered again early in the second half to give Faith a comfortable 3-0 lead. Union got its only score with seven and a half minutes to play.
The Eagles got key performances from goalie Sam Carstensen, who replaced Jared Conable (out with a broken finger), and the combination of Busenitz and Zollinger who will be critical pieces offensively the rest of the season.
Faith looks forward to back-to-back games during Homecoming Weekend with a Friday matchup against Ozark Christian at 1:45 p.m. and a Saturday matchup against Calvary University at 1 p.m.
