Women's Basketball Season Review
This year's Lady Eagles were a young team with more than half of the players new to the program. They faced a strong schedule and could have easily have given up early in the season. However, they did not give up, improving continuously throughout the season and showing a God-honoring attitude regardless of the game outcome.
The first three games were close with two being single-digit losses along with a win over Emmaus Bible College. The next two games were a tough stretch for the team, but they continued to practice hard and show improvement in their individual skills as well as team play. Faith then won two games in a row, including a nail biting one-point win against AFLBS. Faith was able to win one more game before the conference tournament. The highlight of the season came at the conference tournament. Faith entered as the #5 seed and faced the #4 seed Calvary Bible College. Calvary had just beaten Faith the week before in overtime. The Lady Eagles played their best game of the year and beat Calvary by 11 points to advance in the tournament.
The Lady Eagles faced several hardships during the season. Jenna Bean, last year's MVP, suffered a chronic knee injury and missed several games. Still Jenna showed remarkable toughness as she refused to let her injury end her season. With seven games to go in the season, Jenna needed 17 steals to break the all-time Faith career steals record. She was able to get 27 more steals in the last seven games to secure that record. Kelsey Grider set a new record for most blocks in one game with 10. Kelsey is currently 39 blocks away from the all-time career blocks record. Jenna Bean led the team in points with 197, assists with 51, and steals with 66. Kelsey Grider led the team in rebounds with 177 and blocks with 62. Two of the Lady Eagles were recognized with conference, regional, and national honors. Jenna Bean was named to the NCCAA D2 North Central All Region Second Team and was an MCCC Honorable Mention selection. Shelby Whitcomb was an NCCAA Scholar Athlete.
In postseason awards the Faith women's basketball team was honored with the MCCC Sportsmanship Award, reflecting the strong Christian attitude the team displayed all year. This recognition was in reality the highest award the Lady Eagles could receive.
