The Faith women's basketball team returns five from last year's team including four starters. The team finished 9-18 last year, but with new freshman and another year of experience from the upperclassman, the team looks to stay competitive throughout the season. Faith will be led by Junior Jenna Bean, who was last year's team MVP an NCCAA II North Central All Region Second Team selection. Jenna broke the single season steals record with 117, and is 59 steals away from the all-time career steals record at Faith. She also led the team in scoring last year at 12 points a game. Sophomores Becca Saatmann and Kelsey Grider are back this year, and will be counted on for their scoring, rebounding, and defense. Becca was second on the team in scoring and third in rebounding last year. Kelsey led the team in rebounds and blocked shots. Senior Shelby Whitcomb and Junior Carissa Grogg bring experience to the team. Both were in and out of the starting lineup last year, and will be counted on this year to score, pass, and defend.
The Eagles have added five freshmen to this year's team. Hannah Nichols from Ames, IA will be playing the combo position of guard and post. Hannah brings hustle and quickness to the team. Ashley Pearson from Corning, IA, and Kellie Warne from Lincoln, NE will be counted on to learn quickly and contribute right away. These ladies will be playing the post position. Heidi Fitzsimmons from Kansas City, MO and Moriah Payne from Des Moines, IA will be playing the wing position. They each will have opportunity to contribute to this year's team.
Five of the ladies are dual athletes and are currently playing volleyball or soccer. Jenna, Ashley, Heidi, Kelsey, and Hannah won't be joining the team until their fall sport's seasons are over. The remaining five players will be practicing hard until their teammates join. The team will look to join all together and get on the same page as quick as they can as they have one week before their first game on Saturday, November 3 at 1:00 PM at Faith vs. St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
