The Faith Lady Eagles soccer team traveled to Minneapolis, MN, this past weekend to compete in the 2012 NCCAA II North Central Regional tournament. Faith entered the tournament as the #3 seed and faced #2 seed and 7th ranked Providence University College. Faith had faced Providence earlier in the year, and had dropped that game 0-3.
The tournament setting was perfect for soccer, with a temperature in the mid 70's and no wind, a direct contrast to the first time the two teams met. The field conditions were not great, as the area had received heavy rain the day before. Providence controlled the ball well early and earned a breakaway, but keeper Blair Smart was able to turn the attack away. Providence kept attacking, though, and nine minutes in found the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. Continuing the pressure, Providence again scored three minutes later. Faith got their feet under them after that, holding off the Providence attack for most of the rest of the half. Providence was able to sneak one more by the defense before the end of the half to take a 3-0 lead into the break. Faith played much better out of the break, finally mounting some offensive attacks of their own but just couldn't finish. Late in the half Providence broke through the Eagles defense for two more goals to win the game by the final of 5-0. Faith ends the season with a 4-7-0 mark, which ties last year's win mark and puts this team tied for second all time in wins in a season.
