The Lady Eagles soccer team avenged an early season 1-3 loss to Lincoln Christian today as they defeated the visiting Red Lions 1-0. Faith is now 2-5-0 on the year.
For much of the first half Lincoln controlled possession, but were unable to break the Eagle's defense. With about 10 minutes left in the half, Faith found some momentum and began to control possession and form attacks towards the Lincoln goal. However, the Eagles couldn't crack the Lincoln defense either, and the game was knotted at 0-0 at the break. Faith came out renewed in the second half, controlling the game throughout and gaining several scoring opportunities. Finally, in the 70th minute, sophomore forward Kirsten Passwaters broke through the Red Lion defense off a misplayed ball and was able to dribble the ball into the net for what would prove to be the game winner. Faith held off Lincoln for the next 20 minutes to gain the win 1-0. Faith was outshot in the game 15-9, although most of those shots came in the first 30 minutes of the first half. Kelsey Grider recorded her first shutout in goal, stopping all six shots that came towards the net.
The Lady Eagles were schedule to play Presentation College at home next Saturday (September 29), but that game has been canceled, so the team will be off for two weeks before getting another shot at a win. That opportunity will come October 5th and 6th when Faith will travel to Illinois to take on Robert Morris - Lake County and Robert Morris - Peoria. Faith defeated Robert Morriss - Peoria earlier this season in overtime.
