The Lady Eagles soccer team grabbed their first win of the season this past Friday afternoon over visiting Robert Morriss College - Peoria. Faith won in dramatic fashion, breaking a 1-1 tie early into the second golden goal overtime. Faith's Jessie LaFleur scored the game winner, giving Faith the 2-1 victory. They now stand at 1-2 on the season.
Faith controlled much of the game, but neither team could get any real strong scoring opportunities through the first 45 minutes, as they went in to the half still knotted at 0-0. Although Faith held a 33-7 shot advantage for the game, it was Robert Morriss who got on the board first, scoring a goal at the 63:55 mark. Twelve minutes later Faith's offensive pressure finally paid off as Hannah Nichols slipped a well place shot just inside the near post to tie the game at one apiece. Faith had many opportunities throughout the rest of regulation and the first overtime, but could not finish at the net, sending the game into a second overtime. The Lady Eagles continued to pressure from the start of the second OT, and it finally paid off, as senior Jessie LaFleur found the back of the net off of a nice assist by Stephanie Carleton, giving the Eagles the 2-1 victory.
Faith has little time to rest, as they will travel to Lincoln, IL, on Saturday, September 8, to take on Lincoln Christian University in a 2:00 PM match up.
