The men's soccer team opened their season on Friday at home with a 3-0 win against Eureka College (Eureka, IL). The Eagles were right back at it on Saturday against North Central University (Minneapolis, MN), but suffered a disappointing 0-2 loss to the Rams.
The 2017 Faith soccer team returned ten players from past seasons and added twelve newcomers, giving the team a different look from previous years. The first goal of Friday's game came in the 16th minute from Freshman Jordan Schmidt off an assist from Oleg Orlov. The Eagle's took the 1-0 lead over the Red Devils into halftime.
Faith extended their lead to 3-0 midway through the second half after back-to-back goals from Oleg Orlov and Andrew Baldwin. The Eagles limited Eureka's shot opportunities to just two shots on goal for the game, which helped secure Faith's first win of the season.
The Eagles, unfortunately, didn't come out as sharp in Saturday's match against North Central University. In what would be a physical game, North Central got a quick goal in the 5th minute, but Faith was able to hold the Rams to a score of 1-0, keeping themselves in the game and looking to tie it up; however, few shot opportunities prevented them doing so. The Rams extended their lead to 2-0 in the 75th minute, a goal that seemed to take away Faith's hopes to comeback.
Faith is back on their home field Tuesday, September 12, at 3:30 PM against Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA).
