The Eagle men won their seventh straight game tonight behind Tyler Betz's record setting 52 point effort. Betz's 52 was also enough to put him over the 2,000 point mark for his career. Tyler is the second leading scorer in Faith history with 2,001 career points. Todd Terpstra holds the all time mark for the Eagles with 2,472.
The Eagles went to Betz early and often in the first half as each team struggled to stop the other's offense. Faith held a 14-9 lead six minutes into the half, then slowly extended it over the next fourteen minutes, taking a 50-34 lead into the break. A tip in by Betz at the first half buzzer gave him 28 in the half. Faith was able to extend the lead to twenty several times in the second half, but couldn't seem to string together consecutive defensive stops which allowed Nebraska to hang around. Offensively the Eagles moved the ball well, finding the open man for high percentage shots. Betz netted his 50th point of the game on a free throw, then scored in transition off of a steal by Jason Scheps to score his 52nd point, breaking the most points in a game mark of 51 he had set earlier this season and scoring his 2,000th career point. Faith went on to win by a 95-77 final score, pulling their record up to 8-10 and their conference record even at 3-3.
Betz recorded 16 rebounds along with his 52 points. Eric Young had a break out game for the Eagles, recording his first career double double with a career high 16 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Marshall continued to run the Eagle's offense well, as he dished out seven assists, while Cooper Rodman provided a great spark off the bench with five assists. Dillon Gingerich added 12 points and Josh Whitlow grabbed three steals. As a team the Eagles had 28 assists on the night and outrebounded Nebraska 54-33.
Faith hits the road this weekend for the first of five consecutive weekend road trips to close out the season. Faith will travel to Moberly, MO, for a tough conference game against Central Christian College of the Bible on Friday at 7:00 PM. The Eagles will then head to St. Louis on Saturday for a 4:00 PM contest with St. Louis Christian College.
